“A picture says a thousand words” – these words have been written on book cover and I think it’s really truth. Book cover is one element that usually caught the most attention of the readers and visual memorization is the strongest one. Without reading the entire book, you could be able to get the concept of the story just by looking at the book cover design.

Sometimes an artist creates something so beautifully simple that it takes your breath away…. literally. (hack line – couldn’t help it) Artist Jason de Caires Taylor creates life-size cement sculptures of people and submerges them into the waters of South America. As time passes the sculptures become part of the underwater landscape and slowly become artificial reefs ripe with marine life.

Here are my favorite creative inspirational discoveries while surfing the web this week.
1. How to Make an Orca (Shachi) from a Plastic Straw.
In Japanese, 鯱 (pronounced “shachi”) means “killer whale,” or orca. (Note that 鯱 鉾 can also be pronounced “shachi-hoko”, which refers to a mythological animal which has the head of a dragon and the body of a carp. Temples and castles in Japan were commonly decorated with shachi-hoko ornaments, because it was believed that the mythical animal could elicit rain and would thus protect the building in case of a fire.)
2. Phenomenal Planet Photography.
Planet (Stereographic Projections) Photography is simply crazy and fun! The technique is not only all about skillful digital manipulations, but the raw photography side is very technical. The use of wide angle lenses help to overcome the need for multiple photographs to get the entire scene, but then there is the mapping of your photographs to ensure that you capture all of the surroundings and not to later find a gap in your equiangular panorama.

3. Munny Madness & Munny Madness 2
via Lee Gustin creative design blog
Munny is a “Do It Yourself” vinyl toy from Kid Robot . Check out these cool custom designs.

Won Park is the master of Origami. He is also called the “money folder”, a practitioner of origami whose canvas is the United States One Dollar Bill. Bending, twisting, and folding, he creates life-like shapes in stunning detail.

5. redesigned Movie posters.

6. Incredible Self-Portraits by Levi van Veluw

7. Clever Condoms Advertisements – 61 Prints
Via Design your way blog
The copywriters and art directors must be extremely enthusiastic when they get a contract for a condoms company. I can’t explain how otherwise they can make advertisements so damn clever and funny. That and maybe because they’re top notch in the advertising industry. You have here 61 excellent print advertisements from the most known condoms producing companies.
